Who are you? What is your specialty?

I’m Adam Hebert, I own Epoch Moment Photography, Epoch365, and the Know Where Project. I specialize in weddings and engagements and creating personalized photos and videos for my clients. I would say Photoshop is also a specialty of mine for those clients that want something a little more outside of reality on a few shots. 

What are you passionate about? What do you stand for?

This may sound cliché, but I’m passionate about life and making the most of your moments – Essentially “be present.” I don’t regret it, but I feel like I wasted most of my life not chasing my creative dreams early on and just worked at a job until I was 38. I’m hoping that someday someone invents affordable time travel so I can start this path earlier, but I’m not holding my breath on that.What do I stand for? This is a good question, I rarely reflect on my inner person… I believe in respect vs rules and always people over profit. Also, no matter what you’re doing – If you’re not having fun – You’re doing it wrong. 

Who are your clients?

My clients are the best! (Some would even say that they’re ‘dope’ – And by someone, I mean me, I say that – My clients are dope!) According to Facebook… My clients are 22 to 42, recently engaged within 1 year and living in Colorado or friends and family of those recently engaged in Colorado. In the real world… They’re easy going people who enjoy life, don’t stress the small stuff, prefers to be outside, finds meaning in small moments, laughs and smiles more than the opposite of that, cries at movies, a little nerdy, has seen everything Star War, probably secretly believes that dragons and unicorns actually existed at some point, and never watches the news outside of the weather parts. Or in other words – They’re dope.

When and Why did you start your business?

I started Epoch Moment Photography six months after owning my very first camera (Nikon D7100). Long story short, I was given a camera for my 38th birthday… Two weeks later I quit my job of 17 years to become a full-time ‘professional’ photographer. That was September 17th of 2014. Then, in January 2015 I launched RAD Atom Photography and Design… I know right… Such a cool name, why did I ever change it? I went a year like that practicing, learning, and training and grabbing every gig I could for literally any amount of money. During that time I second shot my first wedding and absolutely fell in love with wedding photography. The chaotic fast-paced day, the fleeting moments, the emotions and beautiful settings… I knew right then and there that this was what I was supposed to do with my life. So, I rebranded under Epoch Moment Photography… Which, admittingly, is a much better name in general but especially for weddings… And officially launched in January of 2016. It may sound a bit crazy to quit a job of 17 years to become a full-time photographer after only a few weeks of owning a camera… And it is… I don’t recommend it. However, for me, it worked out. You see, I had spent the previous 20 years casually editing photos and making composites in Photoshop, creating traditional and digital art, and drawing comic books. So I already had extensive knowledge in Adobe, composition, color theory, and design backing up my new found photography obsession. Basically, I learned the art of photography backward compared to most photographers… And I’m ok with that. The why is a much longer story that I will spare you and sum it up with… I literally have the best job on the planet.

What or Who inspires you?

I’ll start with the people who inspire me… When I first started looking at photographers locally, I was deeply inspired by Tina Joiner’s work. Her work is fantastic and the couples looked so naturally relaxed and beautiful… Just stunning work. I wanted to be like her and deliver equally beautiful work… I’m still working towards that but getting closer every day. I actually met her once at a wedding expo I had no reason to be at and just kept asking her questions… Sorry Tina, but thank you for being so kind and talking to me for a bit…. It meant a lot to me. Aside from Tina… I find my inspiration from people like Ryan Serhant and Gary Vaynerchuk who simply motivate me to remain positive and get off my ass. They also remind me that the only difference between me and everyone else doing the same thing is the hard work, so I put in the work. Also this… 86,400. That number represents the number of seconds you have every day. What you do with each second is a choice and it matters how you spend them. That’s why 86400/1 is part of my logo and branding… It’s a reminder to myself to make each second count and take risks. 

Do you have any advice for newly engaged couples?

My advice for newlyweds, not that I’m qualified to give advice to humans, would be to make your life and wedding unapologetically ‘yours’. In your wedding – Participate in the planning process (talking to you grooms) and only do the ‘traditions’ that mean something to you. Most wedding traditions come from very odd times in history around the world, so unless it actually means something to you or that’s how you’ve always envisioned your wedding day… Don’t feel tied to the idea that ‘this’ has to happen at every wedding and ‘this’ is the way it’s supposed to be. Also plan a few pauses during the wedding day to slow down the day and create special private moments with your spouse, family and close friends. Oh! And really consider a first look before the ceremony… They’re cool and really help to ease the timeline. In life – Don’t sweat the small stuff, say ‘yes’ way more than ‘no’, and try everything until you figure out what you love… Then just do that forever until the end of time. Also, happiness is as much a choice as is ‘extra cheese’… So always choose extra cheese and be happy.

What is one of your guilty pleasures?

I love candy… Specifically Skittles or a frozen box of Charleston Chews… Also popcorn… Oh and Redbull… And ellipsis (obviously). They all make me happy and sad at the same time. 

What is one thing newly engaged couples should know about your service?

They should know that I’m 100% dedicated to helping create the best day possible on their wedding day. Yes, I’m super focused on photo and video and telling their story but I’m always there to do anything I can to make the experience of their wedding as memorable as possible. Whether it’s during planning or on the wedding day, I’m there to help in any way I can. I’ve run rehearsals, I’ve brought medicine to sick grooms, I’ve grabbed donuts on the way, I’ve been a bouncer when needed… I’m there to make sure that two specific people smile, laugh or happy cry all day, and of course to tell an amazing story through photos and videos. For some couples, that might mean to simply stay back and let the day unfold, others might need more interaction and prompting. Every wedding and every couple is different, but if there’s something I can do to make the day better please know that I don’t just stand idly by and think ‘I’m just the photographer so whatever happens, happens’. No, I’m a wedding professional and professional wedding guest so let’s make this day awesome!It goes back to my previous answer… If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong. 

What is your favorite part about a wedding?

My favorite part of every wedding… Well, there’s two. First, I really enjoy watching all the different ways people celebrate and express love. How they find meaning and sentiment in different things and different moments. It’s super cool to witness all of that pure emotion hyper-focused through my lens. Second… Well more like the first v1.1 as it’s related to the first thing… There’s a moment during an engagement shoot or wedding day where the couple simply forgets they’re being photographed or filmed and just starts to be themselves and truly be free to enjoy the moments happening around them. I think it’s in the eyes, or maybe it’s in the posture, but there’s a definite change that happens and it’s cool. Secondly… Sometimes weddings can get crazy and fast-paced and there are thousands of things happening at once. I’m orchestrating my second shooter and my video guy and trying to shoot my own photos and video and it’s just a lot happening all at once… And I L-O-V-E it! I think maybe instinct kicks in or something and my brain just works better when things get crazy like that… So it’s entirely possible that my brain actually works best when I don’t have time to use it.

In life and in business I have a very strict “no tie” policy. I just don’t understand them or their purpose… This also includes bolos.
